Lech Poznan confirmed the return of Robert Gumny, signing him until June 2027 with an option to extend another year. The €900k deal closes the summer window and shors the defence ahead of the Polish Super Cup clash with Legia.
How did the comeback happen?
After the 2025/26 season, sporting director Tomasz Rząsa said the club monitors its academy graduates playing abroad. Among the names that caught his eye was Robert Gumny, right‑back of FC Augsburg. On June 20 the portal Sportowy Poznań reported the 27‑year‑old arriving for a training session on Bułgarska Street, and three days later he joined the pre‑season camp in Wronek, where Niels Frederiksen assessed his fitness. The March‑last‑year knee injury was no longer an issue – Gumny played 45 minutes in a friendly against Chrobry Głogów, providing two assists and helping the side win 2‑1.
What will Gumny bring to the squad?
Gumny's versatility lets him operate as right, left or centre‑back, and even as a wing‑back. At Augsburg he logged 106 appearances, two goals and three assists, making him a valuable piece in Frederiksen's three‑defender system. This move plugs the gap left by Joel Pereira and Michał Gurgul, while rumours suggest the club may also target a left‑back soon.
When will we see Gumny in action?
His first match for the home club is set for July 13, when Lech will host Legia Warsaw in the Polish Super Cup. It will be a perfect stage to gauge how quickly the player adapts to the Ekstraklasa after five years in the Bundesliga.
Lech Poznan leads the Ekstraklasa with 60 points after 34 games (16W‑12D‑6L), goal difference +17, four points clear of Górnik Zabrze. The latest result was a 2‑2 draw with Wisła Płock on May 23, 2026, and the last five fixtures form a DWWDD run, confirming an unbeaten streak in the recent period.
