Lech Poznań suffered a crushing 4-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in their second Europa League group stage match. It was the second consecutive 4-0 loss for the Polish champions, leaving them bottom of the group with zero points and a goal difference of minus eight.

Patrik Schick, introduced from the bench early in the first half, scored two penalty goals before the break. The first spot-kick was awarded in the 29th minute, and the second in the 41st after a foul on a Bayer player. In between, Malik Tillman found the net in the 32nd minute, making it 3-0 at halftime. Bayer completed the rout in the 88th minute when Ibrahim Maza finished from an Afonso Moreira assist.

"The defensive duo of Lech Poznań is having an incredibly tough time today. 3-0 before halftime, a knockout, a massacre, a demolition," commented Jakub Kłyszejko on platform X.

After the interval, the hosts controlled the game, conserving energy for their upcoming Bundesliga clash. Lech Poznań failed to create any meaningful chances, with their defence continuing to make errors. Damian Smyk described these self-inflicted wounds as "unbelievable levels of masochism."

"This Bayer is good enough, you don't need to help them by scoring own goals. Unbelievable levels of masochism from Lech." said Smyk.

The Poznań-based club must quickly recover from this cup series. Their domestic situation is far brighter. Lech is sitting second in the Ekstraklasa with 22 points, and in their last five league matches, their form reads three wins, one draw, and one loss. They face an important league test at home against Korona Kielce on Saturday, 17th October. Before that match, manager John van den Brom will undoubtedly analyse the defensive setup that failed against Bayer. The squad list and team statistics are available on the squad page.
