Lech Poznań lost for the first time this season, surrendering top spot in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa table. In the 8th round's top-of-the-table clash, Górnik Zabrze beat Kolejorz 2-1 thanks to a late brace from substitute Erik Prekop.
The match in Zabrze attracted 28,007 spectators. Lech took the lead in the 36th minute through a header from Allahyar Sayyadmanesh. The Iranian got his head to the ball and lobbed over the desperately intervening Górnik defenders, as he said after the match. The visitors' advantage lasted until the 76th minute, when Erik Prekop, set up by Kacper Urbański, came off the bench to equalise. Just four minutes later, the same player scored again, this time from an Erik Janža cross, heading home to make it 2-1 for the hosts.
Table consequences
The defeat means Lech Poznań, who had 16 points before the game, dropped to second place. Górnik Zabrze, with 18 points, became the new leaders. Kolejorz now has a record of five wins, one draw and one loss after seven rounds. Sayyadmanesh, scorer of Lech's only goal, is currently the team's top scorer this season with four goals.
The match saw five yellow cards for the hosts and two for the visitors, officiated by Wojciech Myć. Lech's manager made four substitutions, introducing the likes of Leo Bengtsson and Luis Palma, but could not turn the game around.
The Poznań club must now focus on the next challenge. Their next league fixture is an away trip to 13th-placed Wisła Płock, scheduled for December 17th. The senior squad status and match schedule can be checked on our squad and fixtures pages.
Lech's last five league matches read: loss, win, win, win, draw.
