Lech Poznan's Europa League return may not be broadcast on free-to-air television. The match against Crystal Palace, scheduled for 17 September at 21:00, will be shown exclusively on the paid channels Polsat Sport 1 and Polsat Sport Premium 1.
Polish law requires broadcasters to air important social events, including European competitions, on open channels. The regulations, however, refer to the 'UEFA Cup', a name that fell out of use in 2009. It does not explicitly cover the Europa League, where Lech and Jagiellonia Białystok now compete.
A statement noted the broadcaster could use this 'legal loophole'. Recent amendments to the law only mandate free-to-air coverage from the round of 16 in the Europa Conference League onward. For Lech, who sit 3rd in the Ekstraklasa with 16 points, this means fans without access to premium sports channels will miss the significant fixture.
