Lech Poznan have confirmed a long-term injury to defender João Moutinho. The left-footed player will undergo surgery on Wednesday, followed by a rehabilitation period lasting three to four months.

The club issued a statement on the matter. "Moutinho has been struggling with a toe injury since the away match against Wieczysta Kraków (2:1)," said Lech Poznan. "He suffered a rupture of the lateral ligament then."

The Portuguese defender sustained this injury in October 2025. In the current season, he has played only 45 minutes, featuring only in that friendly. Since then, Michał Gurgul has been playing regularly at left-back, with his form sparking discussions about a Poland national team call-up.

Moutinho's absence is a significant blow for Lech in the middle of the autumn campaign. The Poznań side currently sits 3rd in the Ekstraklasa with 19 points from eight matches. They trail the leaders, Gornik Zabrze, by three points. Lech's next fixture is an away trip to 15th-placed Slask Wrocław on Saturday, October 10th.

Rehabilitation for the 28-year-old Moutinho means he will return to action at best in January or February next year. Lech Poznan will have to cope without him throughout the key period of league battles and any potential cup competitions.
