Lech Poznań responded to their midweek European defeat by demolishing Korona Kielce 6:1 in the 11th round of the PKO Ekstraklasa. The Poznań side were already 4:0 up at halftime, with both Pablo Rodriguez and Mikael Ishak scoring braces in the match.
Goal flurry in the first half
Patrik Walemark opened the scoring in the 4th minute from a Rodriguez assist. The Spaniard added his first goal just two minutes later to make it 2:0. Mikael Ishak extended the lead in the 23rd minute, and just before the break the Swede first scored with a volley and then assisted Rodriguez to make it 4:0.
In the second half, Rodriguez returned the favour with an assist for Ishak's second and Lech's fifth goal. The only consolation for the visitors was Camilo Mena's strike in the 55th minute. Yannick Agnero sealed the final score in added time from Michał Gurgul's pass.
Radosław Laudański from Poznański Express highlighted the team's efficiency. "To find a team as effective as Lech Poznań at the start of an Ekstraklasa season, you have to go back to 2008 and Maciej Skorża's Wisła Kraków," said Laudański. He added that 27 goals after 10 matches is the third-best tally in the 21st century.
League context and next challenge
This heavy victory allows Lech to maintain third place in the Ekstraklasa standings with 22 points from nine matches. The Poznań side are now three points behind leaders Górnik Zabrze.
The team's next test is an away match against second-placed Legia Warszawa on Saturday, 24 October. Ahead of this clash, Lech's recent form has been mixed, including a big win over Śląsk Wrocław but also a defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League. The squad may be without injured top scorer Ali-Reza Sayyadmanesh, who has five goals this season, for the trip to Warsaw.
